I am using a Dunnell 3d Igniton system. have a problem with no spark, the unit was returned to Dunnell who checked it and got an engine running with
it. the unit was re-mapped and given the ok. re-installed today and still no spark. I have checked all the wiring and plugs and they seem all ok. also
changed the coil pack and crankcase sensor.any ideas on what to try or am i missing something simple.
could do with someones Zetec just to see if it runs on theirs.
Help
Steve
do you have access to a laptop and the ecu software?
If so, hook it up, put the ignition on and crank the engine and see if the unit is seeing pulses, if so, my next stop (or first one if you have no
laptop) is the check you have the coil pack wired correctly. They are not all the same in terms of internal/external ignition amplifiers and which
coil is which (internally within the pack). Check with dunnell on which coil pack they used and you use the same.

Hi,Thanks for the info.yes do have a laptop but not sure what leads etc I need to try it. interesting about the coil pack, I thought they were all the same. I have two that look different but neither work. being a Dunnel can you check these things!
Forgot to say,no Dunnell did not send me the mapping Info, so I dont think there is a way of checking. unless you know different
Steve
If anyone is running a Zetec with a Dunnel system could you please let me knowwhat your coil pack reference No is so that i can compare. I have two
units that are both marked 828f-12029-CA.on the top where the plugs leads go in.
Just hoping this is the problem. forget to say it's on a 1.8 if that makes any difference.
Cheers Steve
My problem solved. It was the feed from the ignition, 12v until you turned the engine over then Nothing hence no spark.
