Hi Guys,
Has anyone seen a little square three-digit lcd type speedo in any catalogue?
Any idea if it is harder to wire up than a standard mechanical one? (Although its a lot damn sexier!)
Cheers,
Mark
Made my own!
Try mountain/road bike magazines. Some of the speedos (computers) register into the 100's.
Dead easy to wire up, sensor picks up a magnetic field from a small magnet which goes on the wheel or drive shaft. You then calibrate it by putting in
the diameter of the tyre. The cordless ones are a bit shitty as they can give false readings.
Try www.wiggle.co.uk or www.chainreactioncycles.com
Cheers,
David - have you got a piccie of it, for research purposes you understand! I think that's gotta be the way to go...
MK9R - thanks for the website addresses, I will go and have a look.

Thanks Steven and the rest. I've been looking to fit a bike speedo for a while. Sunday pm I found this site:
www.strangely.org/owned/bikecomp/index.html which gives a good summary of fitting same to a Caterham.
Sunday evening I ordered a Sigma Sport BC1400 for £25 all up (this is a top model!). I purchased directly from www.sigmasport.co.uk.
This morning, Tuesday it has arrived! That's what I call service.
I'll let you know how I get on with it.

David, all you need to do is reply, and at the bottom of the reply panel there's an attachment browse button. Just navigate to the picture and it
should appear with your post. I think. I'll just experiment with a convenient picture
John
edited to say that instead of the picture a link appears, and those interested can download the picture (Sparky was one of our foster cats, BTW, so
don't bother downloading unless you like cats

Rescued attachment sparky having a snooze.JPG
Fine... but the photo has to be somewhere that can be accessed with a URL - and my ftp isn't working.
David
I've managed to get my FTP working (under Linux!) so hopefully I can get a picture up in the near future.
David
The attachment option adds a file from your computer.
If you want to add a picture that is already on the www to your post, use the
button
The problem with pictures any bigger than that is that they slow the BB down so its best to link.
Sorry for not posting a picture - I haven't taken it yet, as I've been busy working on my car!
In the mean time, you can look at the circuitry on a prototyping board - only the nearest processor is involved - the other is a pulse generator used
for calibration.
speedo prototype

David
P.S. If you select the following link - mypages - then select the steering wheel, then
'instrumentation', you will see the background to this project.
