ok random one here but as title, it came with the gauges but the instructions are as vague as they come.
it's a vdo gauge set so obviously a VDO sensor, it's about 3" or 4" in length 3/4" in diameter with some thread near the top
of it and 2 terminals on the top of it (one smaller than the other).
would have put a picture up to save that explaination but camera is dead!
anyone used one of these? how does it work? what does it pick up? magnet etc? really am a little stuck with this!
thanks in advance for all your wonderfull help
thanks
john
Sounds like a hall effect sender. Depending on spec you will need either 1 or a number of magnets stuck to the prop or diff flange.
Doesn't VDO have a website???
yeah they do have a website but to say the least it's next to useless, lists the guages but nothing about senders for them
I bought my VDO gauges from lowtension:

very helpful people. I used the univeral sensor with magnets glued around one of my driveshaft flanges, rather than the hall effect one.
fitting instructions here:

I posted this about a week ago.

I think you have got a inductive sensor I hope this works for you. I know what you mean about the instruction and the speedo

It will only work if you really believe in it unlike my bl**dy starter motor the other day
well after mucho internet searching i've concluded it's a inductive sensor and requires 4 magents to work. only issue now is where do i get 4 identical magnets!
Try Ebay for the magnets. There are normally lots for sale, for example.

Companys like RS componts sell a wide range of magnets.
Also try
