Can anyone recommend a fuel tank sender unit that fits in the top of the tank like the one in Brooky's archive?
Or has anyone got a spare they don't want? I have a fuel gauge from an MGBGT.
Cheers
Jon
First thing you'll need to know is the Ohm range required by the fuel gauge.
There are two aftermarket standards. 10 to 180 ohms, empty to full for euro. 243 to 33, empty to full for the US. As usual though not everyone stays
to these figures. Also most manufacturers use their own ranges.
The Smiths and VDO swing arm senders are both approx. 10 to 180 Ohms. the VDO dip tube sender which I use is 0 to (60 - 90). The max Ohm being set by
the length of the dip tube. I prefer this to the swing arm senders as I found them less accurate the shallower the tank.
If the MGB one will fit the tank opening OK, all you need to do is modify the arm to suite the depth of your tank. You'll need a voltage
stabiliser too!
You can get both from Speedy Cables.
