My wiring loom relays arrived today. Got a bit of a shock - the horn is on unless the button is pressed. I'm using the sierra front washer
switch as the horn button as advised by the MNR wiring loom leaflet. The switch shorts the horn relay coil to ground. the relay switches 12V to the
horn. For those who speak Ford, terminal 53c goes to the horn relay and terminal 54 goes to ground.
Help
doesn't sound like you've got the relay wired up right.
I'm guessing there should be 12 across both relay switch and main feed terminals at all times.
The switch earth terminal should be connected to the

Column Switch (53c)
does this help?
i had this.
i can't remember which way round it is, but if it's a blue relay, use a brown, and if it's a brown relay use a blue one. if not, i
think there are two types of brown relay, one of which is the same as the blue.
they work differently, one being open until switched, and the other being closed until switched.

All the relays sent by MNR are the same. I suppose a normaly closed relay would do the job but then it would be active all the time.
The relay is wired up right, it's jsut that the switch is "normally closed". I was wondering if the switch had a normally open
terminal as well.
bought a 5 pin relay from Maplins today and the guy said it had five pins so you could choose from normally open or normally closed. Might be rubish, in which case I'll let you know when I wire it in.
Which terminals does the sierra front washer switch come out on for a late model sierra column? I only have the haynes manual for the early sierra, and this is one of the areas that they are different.
On the relay, take the wire off the 87a terminal and put it onto the 87 terminal.
thanks for the reply Vince. My relays only have 4 terminals.
The ford swich puts an earth on the brown / white wire when the horn button is pressed.
Therefore you should have your relay wired to click when the horn button is pressed. In other words a feed + to the 85. Then from 86 (or other way
round) to the horn button. Then from the horn button to earth.
That will make the relay click. A bridge between your + feeding the winding of the relay (85 or 86 above) and number 30 on the relay.
Then the 87 terminal to the horn. Other side of the horn earthed.

after a couple of hours with a multi meter and haynes manual, I've sussed it. The wiring chart had me wire "W" to ground instead of
"31". "W" is the washer motor out on the sierra. It works for the lights as long as you don't pull the rear wash stalk in
which case your lights go out!
Once "W" was disconnected, it left the front washer free to be used for the horn. "31" is the normally closed contact for the
washer as well as for the lights so you have to wire the normally open terminal to the horn relay and the common to ground. All is hunky dory.
You'd expect a £185 wiring loom to be right, wouldn't you? Still, all's well that ends well.
£185 Now that's not locost is it!

I made the loom for the cobra (all black wires) but went down the road of the Vicky Green loom this time.
Doddle. Much better than trying to insert all those wires I'd forgotten Like horn for example
