I'm looking to fit bike carbs to my pinto and a megajolt with a TPS sensor....does anyone know what's the best type of sensor to buy? Ford or bike specific? And how is the best way to fit it to the carbs? I'm using Keihin carbs from a Kawasaki ZX7r....Cheers Oli.
I found Ford TPS sensors work fine and easy to obtain from a breakers, RS also do a neat potentiometer that can be used but it is about £16. Anything
with a linear scale and between 5 and 10k ohms resistance would work ok.

See your last post m8.

Hi sorry but who are RS (rally sport or something similar?) What happens about the MAP using bike carbs don't you get difficulty with pulsating and the like? Map sensor would be easier on all fronts just worried it won't work as well?? Oli.
RS is RS components a large industrial supplier, just edited previous post as i meant Ford TPS sensor.
It is possible to link all four carbs by the vacuum take off points normally fitted and then use a pulse damper consisting of a small canister with a
restrictor on the inlet or some cars use similiar devices in the vacuum line to ecu.
There has been lots of debate about whether tps or map is better but no definite answer as it depends on usage etc.

Hey folks Oli really needs to get this sorted out. If his megajolt don't work he'll be wanting the distributor he gave me yesterday back (
Thanks for that Oli!)
Caber
PS RS components have a good web ordering site for small orders url is <http://rswww.com/> pretty weird but works

here we go again! - got a ford TPS sensor (thanks Warren) No obvious way of connecting it to the carbs so I'm gonna make up some sort of bracketry to attach it more directly to the pedal.....can anyone see any problems with doing this?? Also does the TPS have to go right through all its available travel to work properly or can full throttle be half way round on its scale?? Sorry but if it doesn't it'll make the job a whole lot easier....had a look at the RS one, unfortunately its full travel is 106 degrees which would make this job even harder! Thanks...Oli.
Oli
I would attach it to the throttle spindle not the pedal.
The rotary action on the pedal will only be about 45 degrees at most whereas the throttle spindle will be nearer 135.
It will only need a plate fixing to the end of the carb for this to work.
Keith
My bike carb spindle goes through just less than 90 degrees from fully closed to fully open, the ford sensor only travels about this same amount......Oli.
