Mini Speedo

The mini speedo (original one!) has all the warning lights and a fuel guage. HAs anyone any thoughts on interfacing this with a typical Ford transmission set up? I think it would make for a good retro looking dash!

Depends how big it is !. I used dolimite gauges in mine. I took the speedo out the casing and put the seirra one in that, looks quite good & reads correct as well

was thinking of using the minor one in mine but that will be using minor running gear for the drive train

If you look at the speedo down near the bottom round the edge in a tiny font you will see number between about 900 and 1300.
This number id the number of turns per mile of the speedo, I think it will be about 1040 TPI. You then have to work out the number of turns per mile of the speedo cable. For this you will need the tyre circumfrence, final drive ration and speedo drive ratio.

The Mini speedo is just too big for 7 style car dash, one out a Triumph Spitfire is a better choice and it comes with matching Tacho.
Almost any Triumph speedo generally has a TPI of 1000 this exactly matches an Escort 3.89 final drive and Type 9 gearbox with a blue speedo drive gear.
For the speedo cable a Ford Anglia or Cortina Mk1 or Mk2 cable has the correct end fittings for a type 9 and the small smiths screw fitting used on Triumph speedos.

It would have been spot on anyway all you needed was a 1960s ford speedo cable to join the two.

I would have thought that if your dash extends down in the centre towards the tunnel you could have a mini speedo is the same position as in a Mini or Minor, i.e. in the centre?

This is why i went for the same basic design but with smaller clocks.

Oh , you mean that type of mini Donut? I thought you meant the type with long legs! I think the MG Midget gtauges would look neat ,I'ts possible to get them recalibrated cheaply and you can get speedo cables made to suit loads of different gearboxes

MG midget and mini use the same speedo I think it was used in a lot of BMC British leyland cars, i think it is also on later Morris Minors. Who does re-calibraton and adaptor cables?

The Mini speedo was larger than the Midget one Had a Mini speedo serviced and recalibrated a few years ago by Speedy Cables. I believe they are now based in Swansea. They can also make cables to pattern or drawing. HTH.
