quite a few people are using bike speedo but on problem is no back light. also I am not sure if they will show speeds above 99 mph (2 digit LCD
display).
I am looking for an excuse to buy a PIC development kit and one possible use is for a speedo.
The idea, and it probably be never get past that stage is for something like this:
- 2 LCD displays to show:
- 3 digit mph (4 digit is a pos. to show 1/10ths)
- 6 digit odomoter, (0-128,000 miles)
- simple one time programming according to tyre diameter set by switches
- coloured LED back light
- battery back odometer; reset by removing back up battery
- size should not be larger than a playing card (dunno for sure)
- could use 2 or 4 wheel sensors so can update faster than once a second although I reckon more than 4 times a second would be too fast.
- accuracy should be better than 5%
Now cost - dunno yet so is anyone interested? And how much would you be willing to pay? Bear in mind it is not much more sophisticated than a bike
speedo.
Just looking for an excuse to get into PIC.
What is PIC?
Have you looked at BobC's work? He's done a similar project. It
takes a smarter man that I, but I suppose it would be fun to build--and quite the accomplishment!
