I have got sidelights working but for some reason the headlights refuse to work.
The main & dip relays are connected to 56A (brown/yellow) & 56B (brown/white) and if I apply 12V to them, the relays click in (so far so
good)
56 (brown/black) goes off to the other stalk but doesn't pick up power from the light switch's second position.
What am I missing?

Any brown wire is an earth, your light relays should have a permanent live red battery feed to them on terminal 30 and the switch is on the bn/y and
bn/w to earth from terminal 85 on the relays to switch terminals 56a and 56b. Terminal 86 is a bk/y on both relays (switched live from the ignition)
and terminal 87 takes the power to your light via the fuse. It sounds like you are trying to feed power in through the relay earths. The red to 30 on
the switch only powers the sidelights. The bn/bk loop wire between terminals 56 on both switches carries the earth over so the headlights can't
come on without the sidelights.

Ahhhh that would account for my problems! You are spot on Pete - I have wired the lights for a live feed to the relays. Looks like I will have to
rethink and turn it all around for a switched earth.
When you say 'any brown wire is an earth' does that include terminal 15 (brown)? I have that listed as a permanent +ve for the passing
light.switch
15 is definitely an earth, it earths both relays together so all the lights flash not just main beam.

Thanks Pete, I will have another go
All sorted now - just had to disconnect the earths from the headlight relays and make them +ve feeds and everything works fine now .... phew!
One thing puzzles me though - there are two spade terminals on the lights stalk. One is an earth (terminal 31) but I can't find any mention of
the one next to it. Is it part of the horn circuit or something?
Can't remember that one, it might be for the horn push if you have the wheel centre one, I had Mk1 fiesta switchgear with the horn push on the stalk but the pinouts were same.
