Relays

Is there any other componants that I need to use a relay with other than the following.

Main beam
Dip beam
Side lights
Rad fan
Fuel pump

I see that ford use a relay for the horn.
Is this needed?

depends what sort of horn your using but usually yes it will need a relay

you wont need a relay for sidelights,

Horn is an inductive load -- needs a bigish rated relay.

I used one for Dip, Horn, Fan and Ignition.

I wired my fuel pump to the ignition side fuse block, as well as the main beams. I hope that is OK.

Personally I wouldn't bother with a relay for the sidelights current is less than 2 amps -- but it depends how you wire them.

Mk2 escort had no horn relay....only the newer fords had relays from what i can tell. Infact my escort loom had all of 2 relays, one for flashers and one wiper delay. Nothing else!

Wouldn't bother with a relay for the side lights, horn should have a relay really although a horn is not required for SVA.

Thanks for the replies.
I was thinking the sidelights didn't need a relay.
But when I brought my kit it came with a loom and a relay pack to connect to the Sierra column stalks,This had relays wired up for the Side,head and dip lights.
seems strange that it has one for sidelights but not the horn.

I think I'll buy another 3 way relay holder then and use for Rad fan, Horn and fuel pump.

If you're using a Polo Rad with an original rad mounted temperature switch it does not need a relay. Unless you are using a very high current fan.
The original VW switch was designed to switch the inductive load fronm the rad fan direct.
