EFI Pinto - ECU pinouts

Right, this one cost me 5 hours of grief today

Does anyone know where I can find a pinout diagram for an EFI pinto out of a granada ? I think its a Ford EEC-V (bosch L-jetronic baseD) system

The problem I'm having is that its been modified slightly at the ECU power relay and when I ground out what I think is pin 20 on the ECU (as indicated on the basic wiring diagram I have) I end up with no spark !

It's as though that pin on the ECU is holding the coil to ground as when I remove the connection the coil discharges (ouch!)

any idea's the car runs without it connected but as the exhaust is off at the moment its hard to tell if its in fail safe mode

Try www.xr2zetec.co.uk for a diagram (he uses the ecu using only pins vital for engine to run in his own installation)

Looking at an EEC IV ecu (I know you said EEC V) pin 20 is common earth for both that pin and fuel injection relay.

Without fuel pump working, no spark is produced from my very basic understanding of ford ecus. I am probably wrong though!

yes, sorry I missed the I out (not used to ford tech)

hmm that would make sense as the fuel pump relay is one of the things thats been removed before

I'm presuming my pin number is correct ... its the one on the top left of the ECU (it says somthing about 1 thru 10 and 11 thru 20 on the top so I presumed it was the pin numbers.

the xr2 site apears to be down

The pin out diagram from xr2zetec is now in my photo archive - not very clear I'm afraid.

Pin 20 is second one down I think which goes to relay and common earth.

Not much help this diagram as so small!

Isn't it more a case of the fuel pump relay not operating if no spark is produced? Safety feature to stop fuel being injected if it's not being burnt. No help with your problem though

well its running much better now I swapped leads on 1 and 4 and leaving that pin unconnected doesn't seem to stop anything else from functioning as it should.
