hi all, i have been trying to get my megajolt to work for some time now. i built it as well as i could and i think everything is done right, but every
time i try to get the computer to see it, it doesn't!
i have found out that it is probally the serial connector, as i soldered a male db9 in, instead of a female. i used a gender changer to allow me to
hook up the cable but as the female and male pins are in differnt patterns and the gender changer compensates for this, the cable will not be
interfacing correctly.
does this make any sense? does anyone has a female connector hanging round that i can purchase? i tried to get some off rs but ended up with male
connectors again!

Remember that the serial cable must be straight through, some gender changers are straight through so you may be able to get one to work.Pins 2 3 and
5 are the ones required and in the worst case you could make your own cable to suit .
If all else fails and you do need to replace the connector on the PCB i may have a spare one.
Also have you checked for communication using hyperterminal ? the Java software can be difficult to get working at times.

Hi,
I had the same issue when using a standard comms cable, in the end cut it open and reversed the TX RX wires and away it went.
You can prove your terminal session with a paper clip in the end of the lead. If you short out the TX and RX pins on the lead you should see the
characters echoed back on the screen.
from memory I swapped pins 2 (TX) & 3 (RX) over.

this gender changer doesn't do straight thro but the serial cable does as it has been tested and is known to work. if u can find spare connector
that would be amazing as it makes life much simpler.

what is hyperterminal? i assumed it was on the downloads page for megajolt. but it isn't. is it a good way to test the board? it took me ages to
get the java tuning software to run. was not the easiest thing to sort out!
where can i get the hyperterminal prog? also is there any instructions for usage?
Hyperterminal is a windows communication package. In XP it's in start > Programs > Accesories > Communications
ah i see, should of done some research first, it comes bundled with windows. what do u put in the terminal to see if it is communicating? as so far i have only found out how to test a modem.
I have a spare one , U2U me your address and I will put it in the post.
