Krismc - 28/6/06 at 03:57 PM

Me and scott C started wiring up the zetec last night and a few wires came a bit confusing

1st we cant understand how the edis is wired or is required to be wired to the mega squirt- can anybody tell me why in the diagram it is shown to be a switched live connected directly to earth???

The wires on the loom are as follows

Orange +ve
Black -ve

Coolant Air Temp
Yellow +ve
Black -ve

Throttle Position Sensor
Purple Signal
Red +5v
Black -ve

Lambda
Red Heater +12v
Black Heater -ve
Black Sendor -ve
Lt Green Sensor +ve

EDIS
Blue PIP
Slate SAW
Black -ve
Red +12v

Fuel Pump
Pink +ve
(Earth to chassis)

Inj1
Brown -ve
Red +ve

Inj2
Green -ve
Red +ve

2)so according to the above i have a black- and a red +12 to connect to the edis what connectors to i connect too!

Found this

PIP (EDIS output signal) Pin 1
IDM (diagnostic signal to ECU) Pin 2
SAW (ECU spark control signal) Pin 3
IGN GND (signal return) Pin 4
VRS - (crank sensor negative) Pin 5
VRS +(crank sensor positive) Pin 6
VRS shield (crank sensor shield) Pin 7
VPWR (ignition switched 12 volts) Pin 8
PWR GND Pin 9
COIL 1 (coil drive) Pin 10
CTO (clean tach out) Pin 11
COIL 2 (coil drive) Pin 12

From here

...yea thats the same as diagram!!

BKLOCO - 28/6/06 at 04:15 PM

?????? Where do you think there is a switched live going directly to earth?????

Krismc - 28/6/06 at 04:17 PM

NO8 on the edis is connected directly to 2 on the coil!!!

no 2 coil is ground and 8 is 12v

scottc - 28/6/06 at 04:18 PM

I think we both being a bit dumb and its the radio suppression the goes to GND.

Correct.

CTO is tacho out if you need it.

Krismc - 28/6/06 at 04:27 PM

Ah yes so just another 12v switched to coil!

DARN the small writing

but it explains what CTO and IDM is.

Krismc - 28/6/06 at 04:29 PM

This is easy once you get going..........so IDM, where will that connect on the ecu wiring!!??

.....or i guess its not used and only for standard ECU!!

Eureka you solved my problem I wondered why pin 8 is a direct short to earth as well as powering the coil . it's only earthed through a supressor if fitted .......that has saved a lot of sparks bangs and misery
