Guys,
I have an electronic speedo for a type 9 box and need to know which wire is which.
I have three wires: -
Yellow
Black
Brown
I think that they are there for: -
12v+
Earth
Signal
But don't know which is which and don't want to guess. Is there anyway of telling or does anyone have a Haynes manual that says????
this was only recently discussed on here - try a search perhaps?
Cheers
Mark
Ford colour trends would suggest:
Black - earth
brown - +ve
yellow = signal
Easy to check though - just connect a 9v battery (very low current so you won't melt anything) across the power leads and a multimeter on the
signal (other meter wire to earth) Spin the shaft and see if you get pulsing from the signal.
The earlier posts on this were from me - i.e. whether it could be used (which is a yes) - this is my next problem.
Razman - Thanks for idea of testing it, one quick question though, if you got the + and - the wrong way round with a battery how would you know.
Sorry, dumb on electrics!!
Mark.

I see - my thought was like a light bulb it doesn't matter which side goes to the earth/live, it will work either way.
Guess that's not the case so thanks and will try it tonight.
Mark.
Surely
Brown = earth
Black = ign live
Yellow = signal

Brown is always earth in Ford Sierra looms and black is an ignition switched live anywhere in the loom so that only left the yellow for you to figure out.
oooops
