delay in delivery of a fuel gauge
vindicator - 13/10/06 at 01:54 PM

Hi All,

Being a newbe to the kit car scene, I spent over 300 quid on dials for my car from one of the big main parts suppliers. I collected most of them out of stock but several, I had to wait for which duly arrived a few weeks later. The order was first placed in July and I am still waiting for a fuel gauge to arrive. I have phoned up the supplier (on many occasions) to be informed that it could be Christmas when they receive more stock. This is a Tims standard (50mm) fuel gauge. My question is...is there anything else I can do or do I have to wait up to six months before I can fit the fuel gauge (if it arrives..). I have also heard that all the gauges are made by one manufacturer who just rebadges them....if so has someone got any details.....

thanks

Running out of fuel very quickly....

ebay for guages? a LR defender guage perhaps? or what about a durite from vwp (cost > £ 40 so not lo cost).

If you want to wait for that guage, but want some indication of fuel level, then I'd sugget make up a LED guage using comparators.

If you know the resistance of the sender when empty/full then if you really asked me nicely and are really really struggling, I could make something for you at cost that would fit in the 50 mm hole. (PM me if you really get desperate)

What you building?

If it's a Locost and you've just started it'll be a miracle if it's finished in 3 months!

Bear in mind fitting out the dash is one of the last jobs you want to do on a *very* long list!

If you're desperate then maybe if you fill in your location and build details someone will lend you one for your test.

HTH,
James

EDIT: Vindicator as in that's what you're building.... or member of Alpha Flight?

Hiya,

Yes, I am building a vindicator, got the body work delivered yesterday. Hope to spend all weekend, fixing it to the chassie. Everything else is in and working. After the body work it is dash board and wiring electrics, lights etc. So I could do with the fuel gauge turning up as it matches the rest of the dials. I was wondering if anyone else had any problems with the TIMs gauges or whether I could go to the manuafacturer and short circuit the middle man. The gauge is only around 24.00.
