Just recieved my new instrument set from the states (haneline teleflex)
Very pleased with them and the service, however- they have supplied a pulse generator instead of a magnetic proximity sensor for the speedo feed.
because of the hasle (and cost) invovled I am thinking of just finding a suitable item in the UK rather than go through all the shipping/import duty
business again
So.. my question is....
where can I find a suitable sensor at a decent price? and are they all the same or do I need to match it to the speedo in some way?
if it makes any difference the pulsew generator they have supplied is a item HL148 - unfortunately it would stick out to far from the gearbox to fit
in the tunnel
Why dont you try ETB (digi dash) as they supply magnetic pick up's for the speedo
Iv got a push bike pick up on my acewell. Maybe that will work?? Just 2 wires to connect.
www.europaspares.com
instruments - gauge senders - cobra range
Europaspares SC8904 4 magnet speedo sender £28.40

but will they work? are these things all the same ?
cheers
I have it myself and it just makes and breaks as the magnets pass so you can send to earth or send feed to speedo
avoid the cheepie etb sender ( couldnt get that one to work ) a VDO one worked first time

Get this from RS. Product of an earlier thread (search on speedo sensor)

;
Virtually the same as Europa and 1/3rd the price. Postage will cost you as much as the sensor but still less than half price.
I had a Europa one and it got broken as I mounted it badly. Replacement from RS is fine.
Same thing just one extra wire.
Im looking at doing the same as i ordered a set of gauges from the states with a pulse sender for a ford box, but same old trouble, to big.
I tested the pulse sensor with a multimeter, it makes a circuit every 90 degrees, so a 4-magnet pick up in theory do the same.
Ive been looking as well for a pick in this country, rather than the states with more import tax. Never thought of RS

OK here is the comparison table for the 3 reed switches from RS:
Description
As you can see 2 are N/O and one is C/O
they also have different switching current and capacity Sooooo.........
which one?
cheers
Beware of the Maplins home security reed switch. I was a bit worried about how quick it would react. 4 magnets on the prob and it will need to be able
to spring back pretty quick.
And sure enough, on the rolling road, it got up to 50mph and just stayed there. Once the speed came down below 50mph it was fine again.
Ive got one of the RS ones and works fine. My needle moves a little, but i think that maybe the mount. Was fine for SVA.
Will see if I can find out which one it was. It was definately normally open. Is the bottom one definately normally closed?
Edit: Just checked and mine was the bottom one. Not sure what C/O means but it definately closes when I pass a magnet past it. As said works fine for
me.

I think C/O means changeover.....i.e. 3 contacts.... one common, one N/C, one N/O
Perhaps someone can confirm or tell me I am talking crap....
just had a read of the pdf for the c/o item and that does appear to be correct
So what are the benefits of the Acetal item?
Damn this is getting complicated huh!
