Broken Smiths Classic Rev Counter
The Baron - 16/12/06 at 09:30 PM

I have been tinkering today, and have noticed that my smiths rev counter (old dolly sprint style) is broken. All the connections to the coil etc seem ok.

Is there anything inside that could have burnt out which is user fixable, or is consigned to scrap bin?

Cheers,

The Baron

most likely a dry solder joint,

or the winding inside is rotted away, in which case its scrap

but it is possible to get them reconed

what ever dont chuck it in the scrap.

They use very simple circuitry, always worth taking it apart and having a look.

This should help: http://www.classictiger.com/techtips/motach.html

This book has a section on repairing instruments.
I had a browse thru it at the local library.
