sierra indicator connection to loom
nib1980 - 28/12/06 at 07:06 PM

Hello all,

after the much draged out sierra stalks saga, I've got the headlights to work and there working a peach now, many thanks all.

I'm now moving on to the indicators.

going from toggle switch, and hazard rocker switch, (using two flasher units?) to sierra stalks. I've connected the cables as I expect, (LH and RH indicator to appropriate sides) (flasher relay to and from, using the "super winker" type that came with the car. it's only two pin which i think is the problem).

NOW, I can get the hazards to work (thought there is a small delay before they start to flash, and the seem to be slow in my mind), but the indicators them selves do nothing.

ANY ideas, suggestions, wiring diagrams, I know you won't let me down

Many thansk in advance

P.S. is it as simple as i think and that I need a three pin f;asher unit rather than the two pin type?

many thanks

Neil

Have a look at the hazard wiring diagram on our website. May give you some ideas.

Hi,

I'm not sure what the loom is it's the one that i got with the car, and it's based on the "book " which has two units.

what is the unit (3 pin) you use? and is it with sierra stalks?

Many thanks

The easiest way is going to be to ignore the existing wiring and start again, copying the wiring from a sierra with the matching switch gear. There are two types of switches fitted to sierras , you will need to match your switches against the diagram in a haynes manual and get the matching flasher unit.

Sounds good to me. I know I have the later units that need the relays for lights so. I'll get down and have a haynes manual moment.

any idea what the unit is fr these switches?

Our loom was the original Sierra. It is adapted to use a seperate Hazard Switch only. All the other wiring is left as it was.

Basically the hazard switch diverts a constant fused feed (for Hazards) to the flasher unit then out to the bulbs. When switched off it disables the hazard circuit and gets the feed from the ignition fused circuit going through the switch then the flasher unit.

It is difficult at first to get your head around, but keep this in mind when you're doing it.
