Hi I need some advice just finished fitting my tacho and it's not working properly it's a telemetrix one and I have connected it as the instructions and I am using the ecu to run it but it flicks about at tickover and when you open the throttle it reads about 5000 + when it's only doing about 2000 when I connect my meter it's reads correctly anybody got any idea or have I got a faulty gauage ?
Why not try the low tension side of the coil?
Probably a daft question but just how many cylinders is the gauge set at?? Noticing that you've a v6. It’s not still set at 4 is it??

Yes it is set to 6 cylinders its an automotive multi meter which has revcounter settings on it so it can be used to check revcounters are reading correctly or if it has not got a revcounter.
What input is the telemetrix gauage designed for? The ECU tacho pulses are only 12 or sometimes 5 volts, so if the tacho is designed to run on the igntion coil primary where it will see a few hundred volts then it is unlikely to work properly.
dunno the type of triggering you need.
There are system wich trigger using a zener diode on the 100Volts pulse wich gives of the coil. (like mega squirt)
and there are systems wich just trigger on the negative coil side (many clocks).
Tks
I have seen this problem a couple of times when the unit is not properly earthed.
The tacho is ment for ecu or coil phoned up the company that makes them they said it needs something on the inside needs adjusting to do with the pulse reading Thanks for all your input guys.
