Any one ablle to help me with a speedo issue? I have a VDO 80mm speedo that I got second hand. I can't figure out how to get into it to reset the mileage.

Also I want to mate it to my type 9 gearbox. on the back it is stamped 1463 / 3.90 I don't know how to decode these or understand if it will read anything nearly correct?

TIA

it is mechanical not electronic? I assume the former so if the speedo has a trip counter, there will be a button or cable the you push/.turn to reset it to 0.

I am pretty sure you're not asking aout that but the mains odometer.

These cannot be reset easily. You need to dismantle it then lift the tiny pawls to turn the dials backwards - never done that myself.

You can put in a drill/motor and spin it inn reverse and If you are lucky, it will spin backwards;l some will, some won't.

about the number 14xx, looks like it may be turns per mile. 3.90 looks like a diff ratio.

to find out turns per mile, what I have done is to take a nail, file down 4 flats so it fits the drive and fit into a hand drill. put dirll in vice then start "drillin" as it were. keep the speedo at a steady mileage, 20 30 is fastest you will be able to achieve and count the turns in 30 seconds or so.

adjust time to 1 minute and the gearing fo the dirll and you can work out tpm.

repeated several times I reckon you can get within 10 % or better.

Its mechanical, I can't see how to get into the thing without trashing the bezel, if I do that where would I be able to get a suitable 80mm bezel its not something I have seen advertised anywhere
