Actually it's random.

It can run fine, it can run badly (misfiring) and it can just cut out

When it does cut out, I have to switch off the ignition and start it again, at which point it starts up fine.

OK, it's a Crossflow 1600 with megajolt, using EDIS4 and an Orion Coilpack.

I have just been to the scrappers to get a coilpack and changed it to no effect, so I went back and swapped it for the EDIS unit, changed that and no difference.

So would you agree that the chances are that the Megajolt is up the spout?

Is there anyone near me with a megajolt that I could 'borrow'? All I need to do is put it in the car and run round the block

If not, does anyone have any suggestions?

Sensor sounds like a good starting point to me. Also check wiring integrity and gap including bracket stiffness.

Does it do it mainly from cold, warmed up, very hot, after hard run, after steady run??

I've changed the sensor, checked the wiring, the gap and the bracket strength, all are good.

It can do it anytime, hot or cold, mainkly does it under acceleration (but you can't really tell if it does it when it's not)

Uh, you are assuming its an electrical fault. Have you checked that all the jets in the carb are clean etc? Its worth investigating, only takes an hour or so. If theres some muck floating around it could possibly cause some of the problems you are talking about.

OK, taken it out again, remapped the megajolt and it's improved, it's not 100% but it's better. It's a little late to be messing now and it's getting dark so I'll leave it for this evening.

I'll get my bro to check out the carb as he's the engine bloke.

Sounds like rubbish in the fuel tank to me, when you accelerate it pushes on to the pickup.

Engine stops its blocked it altogether so turn egine off, rubbish falls away as no suction holding it in place.

misfire is partial block so mucks around when you throttle the engine.

I'll take a look at that, there are 2 filters inline, one before the pump and one before the carb.

We did cut a hole in the tank just recently which will no doubt leave some rubbish in the tank (even though it was cleaned).

Cheers, another thing to check

Its unlikely to be the Megajolt even if it was faulty it would allow the Edis to run the ignition at a set 10degrees advance.
I had a problem with my car and after changing the coil ,edis and Vr sensor I eventually found it to be caused by the diodes I had used to operate the rev counter from the coil feeds, if you have used this setup check the zener diode in particular as mine was the glass bodied type and had broke.

OK, so I think I've found it. I've been out in the car for a short while tonight after changing the Ignition, by ignition I mean the bit where you put the key, replaced the wiring bit at the back with one I had spare and it seems to be fine.
