last few wlwctrical problems
les - 7/4/07 at 10:27 PM

hi guys,

i have few last (hopefully!) wiring problems, help needed!!

1. oil pressure light -does not light up unless i touch the wire onto the nut of the sensor (which i presume is just earthing it out?)

2 hazard lights only work if the ignition is on and indicator stalk switched one way or the other

3 rev counter- im have a zetec and megajolt rev counter has terminals marked "+12", "1" and "-" not sure how to start wiring it up!!

any ideas much appreciated- im losing my way with this stuff a bit!

1 is correct, the bulb gets a perm live as std, and lights up with the grounded oil pressure switch, not sure about the others though , sorry

1) i don`t think is correct, but there is not enough info, got a pic?
2)hazards, you need a seven pin switch, is function is swap feed from ignition, to perm live. It also will connect both left and right together to the flasher output.
3) +12 is 12v, one connector goes to the ground, one to an output that pulses to ground at a rate that varies according to the engine speed.

Would say your oil pressure switch is faulty.

Hi

1.
I think Jason is almost right. IMHO it should be IGN live to light, then from light to oil switch.
Turn on ign, light comes on. Oil pressure breaks the contact when engine is started and light goes out.

2.
Indicators wired from ign.
Hazards from a permanent live.

3.
Don't know

Macbeast - I love your Avatar - but seriosly worn shocks and suspension bushes there - where I come form we see many Combi Taxis with similair wheel movement

thanks fellas,

so looks like oil pressure switch is wired up correctly, but possible faulty switch,
(will try to post a picture but they always appear huge!)

hazards looks like will take some more digging

will try rev counter as suggested

thanks

Most likely +12v will go to an igntion switched feed, - to ground and 1 to the coil.

However, there is a problem with using a distributorless system such as Megajolt with conventional tachometers. Since there are two ingition coils within the coil pack, each one fires only half as often as a conventional coil/distributor would, meaning you would only see half the RPM on your tacho if you connected it to just one coil.

There is a way around this by combining the pulses from both sides of the coil with a simple circuit.
