another VG loom question
stuart_g - 11/5/07 at 07:45 PM

Been studying the Vicky Green wiring loom diagram, got a bit of a head ache now.
Should there be a relay for the intermittant window wipers. The diagram shows the cables that go to the wiper motor and at the stalk end but no relay, i'm sure the wiper motor doesn't do it. How is this done?

Intermittant window wipers are a bit posh for a 7. All you need is self parking wipers and the motor will do that for you.

It might be like my Bedford Rascal where the intermittent is built into the stalk controller. I found this out when I replaced the stalk and only an updated version was available (as plug-in replacement) Suddely - surprise - I had intermittents

If your having wipers and want intermitant you will need a relay. It's the red one in a sierra btw.

Bin the wipers, take the windscreen off, fit an aeroscreen, save some weight, problem solved.

Or you can DIY it Locost stylee and do wot I did and build an intermitent relay out of a 555, some diodes (to get the pulse duty right) and a £1 maplin relay... Very posh- I can set the wiper pause time from anything between about 5 seconds and 60 seconds.... Not that I ever bother mind, it's stayed on whatever it was when I built it!!! 10 seconds IIRC....

I did think about making it adjustable, the fixed time is never right.

Some like a screen and some dont.
It takes a few mph off the top end but who cares.. With the state of the roads and the unpredicable weather a screen is a good thing.
Come to Scotland and use your car in any thing other than perfect weather (2 DAYS IN JULY) and you will see what I mean.
The main problem is wind chill which can make the temps very low. As well as a full helmut and all the bulky jackets it was such a performance to get dressed and look like a star trooper it wasnt easy to just get in and go.
How many sevens are there for sale with low miles....and the not used tag...You buy the thing use it.....If its got a few comforts at least the the car is there to be used.

Mango who knows nothing about screens
