Dead Battery

Hi Everyone,

I've just moved my part-finished Mac#1 over from my parent’s garage to mine. While the car was over at my parents I'd completely forgot to do anything with battery apart from disconnect it. It was round my parents for about 9 months and as you can imagine the battery is on its arse. I’ve tried to charge it with my Halfords battery charger (which I’ve decided is sh1te) and it wont do anything at all. No charge lights nadda. Is there anything I can do to resurrect it? or is it beyond all hope? If it is knackered is there a good place to buy reasonable car batteries online? I've been to Halfrauds. Motorworld and some over less than helpful places and they want £70 minimum for a battery to turn my 2.0L pinto.

did you buy the battery new if so they have upto 4 years warranty so you could take it back


if you did not then i bought a banner battery for my pinto kit and it cost me £28 that was from lesuireways in rotherham they are part of the A1 stores group you may have a A1 store near you

I have had totaly flat batteries a few times and managed to revive them. I left the charger connected for a day even though there was no sign of life and the lights on the charger eventually started to show. I only have a cheap crappy charger as well. Its maybe worth a try.

Agree, can take an age with a dead battery for it to start to take charge, on the other hand it may be beyond it to, but worth a try.

If you do need a new battery, try your local spares shop. I went to the usual suspects for a tintop battery, then found the local shop was about 2/3 the price

As suggested, avoid using an automatic charger like Halfords purvey as they 'diagnose' the condition of the battery to start with and won't apply any current if it is totally flat.

I use an old Davenset charger but I sometimes forget to switch it off which can be quite dangerous.
