wash/wipe connections sierra solumn

Here's a wee poser for you leccy bods...

I have wired up Sierra stalks to a Vicky Green loom. The windscreen washer has a separate switch on the dash. Everything works fine, wipers and washers except that if I pull the wiper lever towards me (ie what would have been the wash/wipe option) I blow a fuse. The question is - which wires from the stalks can I disconnect to disable this function while keeping the wipers working as normal?

Any thoughts?

Cheers

thats exactly how i caught my loom on fire!!!! the vickygreen loom must have a fust for the sidelight feed to the columns, where as the rapidloom does not ( hence my burning and smoke! ).

cant asnwer your question though...

ps.. the reason it does this is because the washer feed and returns polarity is switched to ruin the back washer pump,

which then sends +12v down the black and yellow wire - which you prob currently have connected to an earth...

one way to stop this from happening might be to fit a diode in that circuit to stop the short circuit?

Sounds a bit technical. The washer is run from a completely separate circuit and now has nothing to do with the column switches or VG loom.

This was because I couldn't get it to work from the switch without stuff blowing. Also for a while the washer came on when I used the indicators!

can you give us a diagram showing which wires on the sierra stalks you have wired up and to what.

this might something that you have done wrong.

Disconnect the wire on 53c of the washer stalk. You can run a new wire from 53c to the washer pump and then earth the other terminal on the pump and it will run fine off the stalks. VG loom was designed for early (Part No. 83BG**** ) stalks and hasn't been modded for later, 87 onward (87BG****or 91BG***** etc) stalks which switch a bit different.
