MegaSquirt ECU

Please help! I'm running a 1.6 Zetec SE using MegaSquirt ECU with Delorto Carbs converted into throttle bodies. Engine is now running on two cylinders and when it feels like it all four... I've ruled out mechanical problems with the engine and also checked out the obvious: Coil Pack, HT, Plugs, Vac tubes, fuel pressure regs. Still no joy! Does anyone have a good working knowledge of the MegaSquirt system as I am rapidly getting out of depth!!! Typical as we've just had the best weekend weather of the year and the cars off the road! Can anyone recommend a good tuners?

Thank you, regards

Megasquirt only fire two banks of injectors, ie on you engine you will have 2 pairs of injectors so first question is are the two cylinders that are working 1 pair or split across the two (which exhaust pipes get hot). If its split then its probally not a MS problem.

Lets assume it is located to pair of cylinders than try swapping the injector plugs around and see if the issue follows them, if not then its looking at the HT side of things, If its does then a few simple checks.

Injectors have a permenant battery, MS flicks on an earth, have you full 12v on each injector plug ?

If so using an old style electrical meter (non digital) if you go across the injector leads you should see the needle flick (do not run with the leads off the injectors, you need to bridge the wires, if not then follow the lead back to MS, using the on-line manual chase the earth back to the ECU. Its really just a case of follwing the wiring diagrams. Most things tend to be poor joints in the end.

You can usually hear the injectors ticking as they operate at tickover, it may help to put a screwdriver on each injector and rest your ear against the handle to listen to each one individually.
If it is intermittent it is more likely to be a bad connection or fuel blockage than a fault with the ecu itself.

Is the Megasuirt controlling spark, fuel or both?

Cheers

Thank you Mark, Paul & Darren for the advice. The MS is both. My next tinkering times at the weekend... I'll add to the subject if I get stuck??!!

Thanks again, regards
