The headlights have to be less than a certain distance from the widest part of the car I believe so yes you would need a a left and a right one.

interesting, reckon you could get a passable light pattern with two motorbike headlights?

Unless they dip to the left it is a non-starter I'm afraid - most m/c headlights dip down don't they?
