Can anyone tell me what the green/yellow wire does on the hall effect distributor ?
1985 2ltr pinto engine

Gn/Y is the output.
Gn is earth.
R/Bk is pos, ? 5v.

The reason i asked was that i want to get rid of the ECU now as there's not much going through it so i was wondering if the dizzy could be wired directly and where the wiring would need to go.
5 v, how would i sort that out ?

Can't help there. I would suggest changing dizzy and amplifier to the inductive set-up which is fairly easily available from the scrappy. You can fiddle with the advance curve by changing bob weight springs and wiring is easy.

The way i understand it is that you must use the ECU with the hall effect ignition system. I think it takes the crank signal and translates this into an particular advance and sends correct signal to coil / dizzy.

It is due to the complications of the hall effect system that most people use the inductive system if they want OE electronic ignition. Thats not to say you wont get the hall effect to work - just that you may find help and advice a little thin on the ground.

Thanks for all the help guys, I've got a spare dizzy that uses points etc so i'll get the engine set up properly with that and maybe get an aftermarket kit later
