As it says really. How much cable should I look at buying for the whole job? Got a bike engine and its loom already.
Personally... I think I would buy an old Sierra Loom and about 30 metres of 7 core trailer wire, to start with.
You will also need some (wherever your battery is located) 6mm^2 Red and Black crimped wit the original battery lugs (I undid - recrimped and soldered
the originals) for the battery terminals.
Plenty of solder and 2m of polyolefin Heat Shrink in ID's 5mm, 3mm and 2mm. 50 thin tie's...
If you don't want to use the Sierra Loom - there are lots of different guages of wire of even more colours - it really is bewildering.
It's either that or buy an aftermarket loom like a Vicki Green or Premier Wiring Loom, the V.G. seems to be the most popular.

I was in the same situation, bike loom and engine and i bought 20m of Red, blue and black in 2 different weights of cable.
I also bought 9m of 7 core trailer wire, what i didnt use as trailer wire i stripped the casing off and ended up getting another additional 21m of 7
different colours of wire.
I still have a good 6-8m of each colour and weight left on each reel.
I did use bike switchgear and clocks though so saved a bit there.
Jeezo I didn't think I'd need so much Its strange how the weight of my wallet goes down whilst the weight of the car goes up
PMSL your right
and what ever you do for bejesus sake dont underestimate the amount of heat shrink you WILL need.
and have a decent soldering iron too, one thay heats up quickly is good but one that cools quickly is better - i have the scar to prove it
Maybe i used more than most because being particully anal i wanted ALL my main wiring hidden under the scuttle/bulkhead pannel so i had to extend
quite a bit of it.
Yep under the scuttle and bulkhead is my idea too. I would like any that shows to be all neatly sorted. Hmm I think I know what I'm needing for christmas now after already dropping back into the overdraft this month, booo!!
Just doin this with the Rush. Ripped out everything on the loom not needed, used new fuse and relay box. Moved all relays to this box which is mounted
on the bulkhead. In the name of continuity Ive kept all the colours in the bike loom and extended them as required.
You dont wanna know how much its cost!!
I've got reels of posh thin stuff in about 6 colours left from when I made my loom.
Interested?
I'm down your way every Saturday morning and only 40 minutes up the 62 if you fancy a ride ina BEC.
Pat...
I just may be very interested. I'll u2u u.
For about a fiver I bought a rear loom from a 7series Beemer. It's one bundle that runs along the off-side sill under the carpet/trim.
They have the battery at the back so really long lengths of wire.
Comes in all sorts of interesting colours that are different from the ones in the Premier Loom/Sierra meaning I had different colours for everything
even though I've put loads of extra wires in.

James
