Would you say i definately need to use a relay for a motorbike fuel pump?

Or could i just take a spur off my brake light ignition live as its in a convenient place?

Either - use a relay or use a seperate fused feed, power used isn't too great 5A (?). Putting 5A through brake lights is a bit excessive...

I would not rely on a spur for something so vital...

I wouldn't put it with a lighting circuit - either give it a dedicated feed with its own fuse or maybe tag it onto the ecu or coil supply.

On the Hayabusa there is a relay for the pump and a seperate circuit for it.

And just to clarify Im talking about the original bike installation.

It certainly needs to be fused and I'd suggest on its own feed.

If you had it unfused on a spur from the brake lights if the pump went wrong not only would the engine die but you'ld also blow the main lighting fuse meaning you'ld potentially be slowing down without any lights on and no way of the car behind you knowing you're stopping....

Also highly recommended to fit an impact cut off switch so the pump will switch off in a crash.

Or at the very least a dash mounted fuel pump cut-off switch so you can switch it off if you roll it.....
