try putting it in 3rd gear and rock it forward and back then try it

Cog thing is stuck on shaft inside starter . Starter off and lube to help spin freely and engage. ........MAYBE

I'd take a small hammer to twat it with, maybe free it off, but then, I'd take a small hammer if I was going to fix a PC

clutch dust on the pinion shaft with some oil or grease used to be the culprit on my old MK1 escort. I used to have to clean it every 3 months ish. It'll start with a push and then take the motor off and clean the shaft.

Few all sorted, I have the best (and possibly the strongest girlfriend in the world)

she just pushed started herself! (alone!!!!)

I love her (she's reading this)

unless your starter pinion is worn out. Best if you get someone to help you push start the car, then work on it at home. Should be plenty of people around tescos.

Cheers, glad you managed.

Glad you got sorted mate.
I bet you were twitching for a moment there.
Women, you got to love 'em.
Especially when they are functional as well as decorative.
