hiya,
Range rover V8 EFI, i fitted a new dizzy cap to it and it was fine.
The little spring loaded contact in the centre of the cap is missing now.
I have tried putting a bit of a nail in there just to see if i get a spark.
Nothing, does it have to be made of a certain material or something?
If so can i buy just the contact from somewhere as i dont want to spend another tenner on another cap.
Cheers
Spend the tenner or it'll never work right
Cheers
Mark
I had a similar issue with pinto cap. Managed to keep it running a few miles on the spring but only as an emergency trick to get to a factors.
Replaced cap and rotor arm as a precaution.
You will new cap im afraid.
Did you have to tap the centre of the dizzy back in after removing the rotor arm?
I had a similar problem and couldnt get the cap to fit, the centre of the dizzy needed tapping back in.
the next thing i knew there was no spark and the central contact had dissapeared.
I can only guess that trying in vain to get it to fit had damaged the centre contact and it had split/cracked or disintegrated.
it was all black and scorched in there too i guess it had been arking accross it for a while and burnt the spring away.
new cap sorted it - get your cash out im afraid
As it happens yes i did, i struggled and struggled to get the cap on, even phoned the factors back to see if there were 2 different caps for this year
dependant upon the dizzy etc, they said it was all one type of cap.
Maybe your right and its been trashed???
You used to be able to buy replacement centre contacts but no longer.
A quick visit to a scrappy might do it Look innocent and whistle as you slip the contact into your shirt pocket.
Same subject: my son let his Zetec run dry of oil. I tried to buy replacement shells but Ford don't do them any more - you have to buy a complete
replacement engine and you don't get many of them for a tenner
