Alternator

Looked at other posts but need to check.
My ingnition light stays on unless you take it passed tick over, my rev counter not working could this be linked?
checked the battery fully charged it shows 12.4v with multi meter with or with out lights on.
disconected the small wire and the light goes out, volt meter shows around 12v but no change in alt meter.

Any idea's, i have changed the alterator and no change.

Does it go off when the rev's fall back to tickover again or does it stay off?.

Ours stays lit until you blip the throttle and then it never comes back on again, its been like that for a few years now and we've never had any problems.

Same happens here, MK2 escort loom with Zetec engine (also did it with the crossflow)

Oh, different alternator too, same thing.

Ours has been on the road now for over 3 years and it's never been a problem.

Hi Lads,

Pop out this morning checked the leads on the alternator, bad conection on the small lead and bad insulatiion on the others.
New spade connector and insulated the others and bingo light out.
I;ve put the battery on charge just in case it has drained to bad weather.

rev counter can be mechnical (very old fashioned so unlikely you have one) or electrical, the latter can take signal from coil or alternator.

If the latter latter,then check contacts but more likley you are taking signal off coil. Again you need to check wiring; it is unlikley the couil to be at faul if the engine is running.
