Hi... I'm looking at these lights/brackets (Cateringvan, so I'm told) to replace the Stuart Taylor brackets which are lower down and let the cycle wings touch the headlights on full lock.

Any idea how best to fix the stem to the top chassis rail? If welding, would the current through the chassis be likely to f*ck up my ECU?

Have you already bought, or are you going to buy those brackets, or are you going to be making something similar?

The reason I ask is rather than 2 separate brackets could you make one continuous bracket that runs from one headlamp to the other and then bolt or clamp this to your top rails to save welding on a completed car

Remove the earth from your battery (standard procedure) and disconnect the alternator so there's no feed back to it. If the wire doesn't stick there's no problem anyway.

in a cateringvan, they slot into tube clamps in the top rail........a bigger bit of tube with a slit down the side and 2 lugs brazed on for a bolt to go through.

i always figured it was so they'd be easily removable for racing or servicing and such like. doesn't really help maintain the alignment though.

i'd go for a solid bar too, and can't you just disconnect your ecu?
