Hi, folks.
In an effort to simplify (and lighten) the wiring on my Blackbird engined Fury I was considering swapping to Megajolt.
Has anyone else done this and are there any reasons it can't (or shouldn't) be done.
The one sticking point I'd thought of is the crank position sensor - what do bike engines use and where is it mounted?
Any opinions or experience gratefully received!
yep, have a look at www.trigger-wheels.com
they sell crank trigger wheels too, so you can put it on your crank shaft
No it cant be done on any engine that revs beyond about 10,000rpm max as that is the max limit of the ford edis.

So do I need to have to engine out of the car to fit that? - Sorry for the daft question, but I'm more used to car engines where you've got
a nice big pulley on the front to bolt it on to?
From your experience will the megajolt work as well as the standard Honda jobbie? And am I likely to find a map out there or will it be a trip to the
rolling road?
Under the front cover on the right hand side as you sit on the bike there will be a 12 point trigger wheel I think on a 4 cylinder bike. There might
be a bit of oil in there when you take it off but it will be very little.

A friend of mine who runs megajolt on a K series told me it had been tested to 35,000 rpm or something silly - but perhaps not!

sorry, i'm wrong.
the crank wheel and sensors work up to 13,000 (as stated on their FAQ) but they don't say that the edis doesn't...

You'd be better sticking with the BB ignition, with MJLJ & EDIS4 you'll be loosing a couple of thousand RPM at the top end. From Memory,
if its similar to CBR 1000, the BB ignition is no more complicated than MJLJ, EDIS, Coil Pack.

Max revs for edis is 10.000 it is documented some where ,there is not a direct coil firing one yet but one is being developed apparently.It would be
possible with a cut down meagsuirt but would not really help in this case as he wants to simpliy things.If it was possible itwould still need to be
mapped and i dont think anyone will have a suitable map.

Cheers for the advice folks - looks like I'll be better off trying to sort out what I've got. It just looks like a pile of dodgy spaghetti
atm and I was tempted to ditch the lot and start again.
This is the problem when you're trying to sort out someone elses logic (or mess!)
Carb blackbird runs 9-3 trigger, inj blackbird runs 12 teeth and a cam sensor, i have a megasquirt which has been set to run 12-1, so all i have to do is remove one of the teeth on my new trigger wheel, cant confirm if it works as yet as my project is long term, i just dont get enough spare time to work on it.
can somebody please tell me what a megasquirt or megajolt is,cheersand can i have one aswell

Planning similar to my blackbird, was a carb now has bodies & will swap to a 12 tooth wheel eventually but for now will run stock honda ignition
to start with.....not running yet.....

Just a thought, is there any way the timing disk could be fitted to one of the other pullys thats "geared down" and then the electronics adjusted accordingly?.
It's worth knowing that the Kronenberg ECU accepts the Honda trigger wheel pattern as standard
Trying to find someone used to tuning using their software might be fun though.....
If you used a pulley that was geared down (ie rotating less slowly IE cam pulley) then instead of a 36-1 trigger wheel you'd need a 72-2 wheel IE
two 36-1 patterns stuck together. Eminently do-able with CAD, would cost about £30 to get one lasercut....
All sounds like its in no way simplifying matters over simply sorting out the colour coded spagetti that is the bike loom. I managed to identify all
the connections on an injected R1 loom in a couple of hours using the colour wiring diagram in the manual.
Also, i dont see how bolting on a lump of steel that is the trigger wheel, brackets, EDIS4 etc etc is going to save any weight. Surely best to stick
with the standard loom even if it means picking up one off ebay and starting from scratch if the original has been messed with.
