Okay, so I replaced the regulator/rectifier for my Fireblade engine this weekend with one from a newer 'blade. Started the engine, and my ETB
Digidash was reporting voltages between 14 and 16 and sometimes slightly more. However if I put my multimeter across the battery it's a stable
14.5. Also, if I unplug the Digidash and measure the voltage that's across it it's also a constant 14.5.
So, I think my regulator is okay, but can anyone think why my Digidash might be misreporting? I've disconnected all the other connectors
(speedo, pressures etc) to eliminate any potential wierd grounding issues. Is it just not very accurate?

dodgy earth? a usual suspect in strange electrical issues.
I'll trace the power feed see where it's earthed - I'd have expected it to show similar issues when fastening the multimeter to the
feed for the Digidash, but I guess the Digidash will have a higher current draw than my multimeter which could make it more sensitive to bad
grounding? I guess I can rule that in or out by running a temporary fused power feed direct to the battery see if it reads 14.5.
Failing that I'll drop ETB an email.
Cheers, Sy.
Well that is odd.
Digidash is fine - if I give it a direct feed from the battery, it's stable and good.
However, powering it with battery -ve and it's normal +ve, or powering it with battery +ve and it's normal -ve, it's wonky on both
counts.
Basically seems like both it's + and - are dicky in some way.
The wiring really is messy in this car, I think I might just have to accept it or risk killing the whole thing!
Are there any good web resources for tips on general debuggery (oo er) of automotive wiring issues? I found myself going round with my multimeter
testing resistances and voltages but not really sure why
Cheers, Sy
