quetion for those with a speedo with digital readout

1. what is resoultion of rpm? (minimum rpm step it can display)
2. how many times per second is the rpm updated?

If you are not happy with either of those parameters, what would you have for resolution and for updating?

Depends which one you've got, if by chance it's an Acewell, the same as mine i have the input setting at 0.5 which matches the rpm output on my Megajolt map on the PC.

What does 0.5 mean in relation to the above questions?

I have the VR2 from Veypor.

It is completely user adjustable. It can show in units of 1, 5, 10, 50 etc etc, and the refresh rate is completely adjustable too!

Let me try another angle.

If I gave you a digital rpm diplay that had resolution of 200 rpm and refresd=hed at say 3 times a second, would you be happy with that?

I mean, if you were caning along and display showed 4,000 rpm, would it matter to you if you engine was doing somewhere in between 3,801 and 4199 rpm?

and if so, how and why?

Never seen much point in rev counters personally beyond looking good.

Rev/shift lights yes. But the only time rev counters (especially those with numerical displays rather than bars) seem be useful is when 'learning' to get the best from a new model of engine or debugging faults.

Any other time you should be looking at the road or for the apex rather than studying instrumentation.

All MHO, I'm sure others will disagree.

Someone here made their own digi-dash based on an fpga, that had instant readout on a long LED bar even on a BEC, it's not hard if you use fast hardware and measure pulse width rather than count pulses.
