90 degree 9 pin D Sub Connector / lead
lsdweb - 6/4/08 at 08:33 PM

Hi All

I need a 90 degree 9 pin D Sub Connector (socket) / lead.

My datalogger (Race Technology) has a front mounted RS232 port and the straight connector comes out too far and fouls the steering wheel!

Now, I have several options -
Extend the steering column - easy but will move the steering wheel too close.
Move the datalogger - no chance - it won't fit anywhere else - seriously!
Change the data logger for the latest version with the rear com port - cost at least £300 to change!
Make a small extension lead with a 90 degree socket, but I can't find one anywhere! The RS site is down so that's a pain!

Any thoughts guys?

Wyn

I have not come across a cable with a 90 degree socket but all is not lost.

you can buy 90 sockets that mount on pcb and you would need to solter wires on as well as insulated them and there is aslo a ribbon cable variey - this is more compact. it is not screened but should be ok for you purposes for a short run.

seems they are called IDC connectors.

whilst I wait for google to provide more info, he is a picture of sid.

Or piggy back a 2nd 9way D type somewhere on the case which is better for you.

Presuming its the comms rather than the GPS socket which you need to remount, then you only need to solder 3 wires onto the normal PCB mount socket inside the case.

Or, get a RS232 to Bluetooth adaptor and stick that inside the case, then you're wire free

Thanks guys

I found an almost right angled connector (I went to our communications workshop) but this still gives me problems. I really don't want to open the case so I'll try the IDC option.

RichardK - if you have a spare or two, I'd be happy to pay the £2!
