how do you wire up a facet pump
ditchlewis - 1/5/08 at 09:27 PM

Just bought a Red Top facet fuel pump (thanks Doofus), and an inertia switch (thanks Ebay)

the pump has one cable comming out of it and no further terminals, so i assume that the cable is for a power supply which will be from the ignition to the inertia switch to the pump, while earth is through the body of the pump. am i correct?

Yes, body is earth, best positioned with the filter end down.

These are also pretty powerfull so expect carb flooding issues unless you plumb a return or use something to regulate the flow.

The Facet fitting kit shows a small earht cable to bridge from the pump body past the mounting rubbers to body/earth.
Power wire goes to inertia switch then onto ignition barrel or seperate switch.

I have a Malpassi Filter King regulator at the carb end without this the fuel just leaked out, overpowering the float valves in the carbs.

I've got a filterking pressure regulator to plumbing to. this time i will put it between the pump and the carbs, not before the pump

what sort of power requirement do these pumps require amp wise? i know it's 12V

I have a Facet 'solid state' fuel pump (the small one) and the instructions recommended a 3A or 5A fuse.

Can't imagine that yours will be much different, even though it's bigger.
