Sourcing some hard-to-find lights
gingerprince - 2/5/08 at 03:17 PM

Hi

My MK has rear lights like the following: -

Unfortunately over time they've badly corroded due to insufficient waterproofing, so I'm looking for replacements.

VWP do some exactly the same as the orange indicators: -

but I'm having a hard time finding the red stop/tail ones. The bulbs in them are 23/8w BAY15D fitment, so I'm assuming that they're actually American (which would make sense since they use red for indicators at the back).

I just can't find them anywhere after googling, ebaying, etc etc.

Anyone any clues as to where I might find something? Otherwise I'll be botching replacement bulb holders with gaffer-tape

Looks very similar to ford KA front indicator repeaters...

Could you get some clear ones from a boy racer type shop and then stick the correct LED inside to give you the colours?

They're bigger than the Ka lights - they're about 100mm length.

I've managed to "cobble" a semi-permanent solution together, involving some new holders from VPW, the old plastic lugs hacksawed to fit, Araldite and varying sizes of heat-shrink sleeve

Should last for the forseeable, but will still be looking at options going forward in case the lenses break etc!
