I have a tacho from a triumph dolomite conected by a single wire to the coil from a mkii escort engine with mechanical distributor on the locost.
The tacho reads too low revs by approx a 1/2. Any idea's on how this should be connected or do I need some other part?

Was the Dolomite a V8 ?
