Hello,

Does anyone know a good electrics engineer / service I can send my clocks to. They are R1 clocks they work fine apart from the re counter. I cant see any burnt out connectors etc so im assuming it is a dead motor but i dont know how to test them

Cheers

any decent auto eletrician should know what to do.

or you could try the koso rx1n dash. it mounts on the column and not in the scuttle.
koso.com
a lot cheaper than a digidash and it looks great. MNR put me onto them and saved me a packet.........

I had one on my last car and they are less than £100 if you know where to get them

but I would like to use the original clocks if possable

rev counters, older ones at least, work on the principle of a charge pump - the pulses would supply a fixed amount of charge to a capacitor that was being discahred by a resistor - the faster the pluls rate, the bigger the boltage on the capacitor. The needle was nothing more than a voltmer measuring the voltage on the capacitor.

I am not aware if modern units use a stepper motor, no reason why they shouldn't but seems overly complicated/more expensive.

There are 2 companies - I would need to dig details out - that repain and recalibrate instruments.

I suspect the cheaper route for you to get a replacement from breakers or ebay.
