Hello Everybody,

I am writing from Turkiye and following this website for a long time.

I also build my locost like you and you can see it from my attachmets.

In our country 1 litre of unleaded fuel is 2,93 $ . It means that we are using the most expensive fuel from the rest of the world.

So my new plan is to build an Electric Car.

Can anybody help me about motor, battery, control unit, etc .

(According to internet search, I found that in America one company build a very powerful and light electric sport car. The specs are unbeliavible ....!!!)

In addition to this site, this forum will be of great use to you http://www.diyelectriccar.com/forums/ . The 7 is an ideal car to convert due to its light weight and large engine space for the batteries. MK sports cars I believe helped build one as a demo. I looked at doing this myself but was put off by the total weight and cost of the battery’s to make a saloon car usable. Many people (mostly in America) have done their own very successful conversions.

Unleaded is currently £1.26 in my area. so 3.02lira

At the height of the strike, down here in Devon one nice individual raised his prices to £1.99.9 for a litre of diesel!

It is 2,93 Dollar not Turkish lira..

For the subject;

I searched a lot of webpage.
The cars are too heavy because of the battery pack.

(I learned that according to Lead Acid Battery, they began to use Li-ion batteries. Because Li-ions are 2/3 more lighter than Lead-acid battery.)

And I found two battery company, they are building Li-ion batteries for Cars.

WWW.THUNDER-SKY.COM (China company). But it is too expensive. ( 2.00AH = 1 $) , custom and transport payments....

From a local company Search;

Also motor is too expensive... (27 hp is 2000 € + VAT)

Control unit is 1380 € + VAT
Other Items: ....... + VAT

It seems that the project will be too expensive...

I think I will give up......

You’re seeing the same thing as me...

The old style lead batteries are very heavy and don't last very long before they need replacement (usually around 30 off them all at once!).

The Li-ion batteries are far too expensive to justify any saving in fuel costs. Really it seems it’s down to simply are you that interested in the novelty of having an electric car? Probably not

Don't forget that electric isn't the only way.

A Locost with a modern, small, all aluminium, motor of around 1300 to 1500 cc and about 60kw will give you more performance than most saloons and use most probably 5l per 100 km, especially if you concentrate on building it light - 450kg should be easily achievable.

Even one of the 3 cylinder 1000 cc motors will easily keep up with traffic and handle brilliantly and most probably achieve around 4l/100km.
