great idea but what a pain in the arse when things go wrong, i've had an intermitent problem with the l/hand indicator warning lamp,stripped the unit out it turned out to be a dry joint on the led, what a nightmare getting through the black crap it's covered in and cleaning it up well enough to solder. I know he's only done it to protect his idea resistor/diode values, next time it's an acewell unit with lights

I had exactly the same problem with mine and you right pure pain in the ass.

Sounds like a conformal coating. It's used to keep moisture/fungus out of stuff that's going into potentially damp environments (as well as hiding component values).

I'm amazed you got it off without damaging anything to be honest.

First, thanks for saying great product however feel I must reply to the criticism.

The 'black crap' is resin and it is there to keep the unit sealed and waterproof. The unit was rigoursly tested before release and there is no way we could have have released the unit into the kind of envirornment it was to be exposed to without protecting it from the elements. It IS NOT there to hide the circuit as if this was the case we would not have supplied the circuit diagrams on the instructions... We will always replace faulty units within one year of purchase we can be contacted on sales@bright6.co.uk.
We are aware phone is not answered a lot of the time and this will be resolved from September but do leave a message or email is best.
Will supply you a replacement unit if you care to get in touch...

Anyone know any other way of contacting the manufacturer? Sent an email to this address & it bounced & no response from a U2U just got an unfinished project that has one fitted but no cover with the symbols on, was hoping to get a replacement rather than replacing the whole unit.
