A simple question but, since I haven't done it before, I thought I would ask here!

The LR type lights have holes inside the body to fix it to the panel using selftappers. Do self tappers work OK for GRP rear wings, or is there a better way of doing it? I was thinking that even if you drill a pilot hole, selftappers might just rip the GRP material away.

Once you have drilled the hole, use a larger drill bit to make a shallow countersink, this will prevent the gel coat from cracking. Self tappers work very well on GRP. I use a drop of silicon also to stop moisture soaking the cloth underneath as this is slightly porous.

Good choice going for the landy ones as they are top quality and very bright, I used them on my buggy.

Why not use nut and bolt with washer to spread the load? Or is the back not accessible ?

Thanks both... yes, the back is accessible. Good tip about the selftappers as well.

I worked on the principal that I'd use the self-tappers supplied but if the lights kept on coming loose I'd use a nut+bolt.
No problems so far

You can use a bit of silicon on the back to both seal the wire for the bulb (think of all the spray from that wheel getting inside) and will help glue the lamp on

You should see the ammount of "spray" a landrover causes - nomally these lights are covered in MUD etc.
