horn help needed
finlay - 5/7/08 at 06:11 AM

hi all

i m having probz with my horn

i bought one of those budget metal casing horns and found when i attached the cables to it it sounded, i later found that it was because of the metal securing bracket attached to the chassis it was conducting through it

i changed the metal mounting bracket for a fibreglass one but i still have the same problem, in that the horn sounds when im attach the wires

can anyone help mke out with this ?

do i need to buy a different style horn ? any links plz

cheers

Finlay

sounds like your horn switch is switching to earth (live out, through horn and back again ,pushing button completes circuit to earth) but circuit is always complete so horn switch dodgy?

Your horn casing is shorted to earth - I would buy another one and chuck the old one in the bin.

*edit* on second thoughts it is ok - just use the one terminal that is not earthed for the feed from the switch.

There is nothing wrong with your horn.

There is a mistake in the MNR instructions, I had exactly the same on mine.

This is how it should be wired
Purple/Black in MNR loom to pin 54 on stalks
Black in MNR loom to 53c on Stalks (also to W on stalks). The horn button is now the windscreen washer button on the stalks.

The instructions will have 53c and 54 the opposite way round, which is wrong.

Most car horns have a constant feed and are switched through the earth

Really? Mine was earthed via the horn body and just had a +ve supply to sound it....
