Temp Sender and Cooling Circuit
mikeb - 21/7/08 at 09:33 AM

I have a mk2 polo radiator currently without a temp sender.

Also a set of 2nd hand cooling pipes from a zetec install (westy). This include a lower rigid pipe with a ford temp sender in it (the seller described this as a fan switch).
This sender fits in the radiator

Question is.
Can I put the sender in the rad and run both the temp gauge and the fan circuit?
Or is the part I have likely to be a simple temp switch rather than a sender?

Mike

likely to be a switch not a sender...

Temperature sender really wants to be as close to the head as possible - I used the lower sender on a silvertop thermostat housing for this on my blacktop.

Normally the fan switch is just a switch. You'll need a seperate sender for a temp gauge.

My fan switch is in a Polo rad and works fine.

Thanks.

I bough a 2.0lt zetec pretty complete with wiring inlet exhaust etc.

Is ther likely to be a sender on the engine somewhere, I had previously assumed they were is the rad not in the engine.
There is something at the back left of the engine in the head?

are you using the zetec thermostat housing ? if so, the temp sender is below the 32mm tak off pip.

Not sure.
Is the thermostat housing the black plastic housing on the back of the engine with several pipes coming out of it (near the coil pack).
I hadn't noticed a temp sender on it?

Ok done a bit of looking on the net.

My engine hasn't got the top sender in the thermostat housing. Is this the one I need to run the temp gauge, or is there another one underneath?

thanks

Answered my own questions.
I think there is another one underneath.

So the only question that remains is what do I use to block off the upper temp sender hole, it seems a little excessive to buy a sender just to block of the whole?

Thanks

How about an old sender from the scrappie?

Depends on the engine - the Focus 1.8 doesn't have any senders or sensors in the thermostat housing.

I drilled and tapped mine at the top to put the temp sensor for my Acewell in.

Hello mike

I might have an old sender in my box of bits you can plug the top sender hole with, i'll pop out in the garage later and have a look.

If so i'll mail it to you if you want it.

I think the thread size for the temp sender under the 32mm outlet pipe is 1/8 NPT but if i'm wrong i'm sure someone will be along to correct me, you will have to put a ring round the new temp sender to earth it as i found out after fitting
