Anyone got a steam locomotive?
BenB - 31/7/08 at 01:26 PM

Just wondered how much oomph these fellas (steam raising blowers) have- I think I've decided my current heater is too heavy (thanks to the 911 blower unit (how heavy?)...

Anyone had experience of them?
thanks in advance!

It's a sucker, not a blower!

You shove the conical bit down the chimney and switch it on. It sucks the air throught the firebox to help when starting the fire.

At the top it just flings the sucked-out air all around.

They don't shift a huge amount of air.

Heater? Performance-sapping pleasantly.

Wear gloves and a hat, man!

I would (and do) wear a hat but my windscreen has a nasty habit of misting when it rains and putting a half-roof on isn't going to help so I think it's time to have some kind of heater / demist. My 911 blower + oil cooler jobby is great. In fact it's got more power than most hairdriers- hence my thinking that it's rather heavy over-kill.....

Shame about the lack of air-flow though, for a moment I thought I'd stumbled across something good.... Oh well

Could try this?

I know I would be trying everything before I added weight to the car...

Hi the Caterham heated screen will drop onto the ST scuttle quite easily. St used to fit them quite regularly for sva and road use.

Cheers matt

Take the screen off and enjoy the atmosphere at its best

Screens are like Becs.... for girls

BenB - 31/7/08 at 02:58 PM

It's true I could use a heated screen- I took out the old cracked one from the Caterham windscreen before replacing it with a plain glass one!!! It just seems a shame now to be considering removing the almost new plain glass one and spending more money on a heated one.

Isn't it strange how it's always the CECers having a go at the BECers and not the other way round? It's almost like they're insecure about something
Nah- they're just frustrated at having made the wrong choice

But at least we can back out of that decision...

Which is the only single solitary plus...

Sure can- you can do a BEC conversion
don't see it often happening the other way round!!!
