head light enclosures

not sure how to expalin this properly without sounding a bit vague i think... i'm sure someone on here must have done this on a car (although not on a 7)

has anyone built headlight enclosures, like those what you used to get on E36 BMWs, where you've got a moulded housing for the light units, the lights have their own glass lenses, and a perspex/glass cover mounted a few inches ahead?

whats the legality of making these? what have people made the enclsures out of?

I'd like to use the Hella 90mm units (the ones with main and dip in one light, or are they 95mm?) so will fibreglass be ok? or aluminium maybe?

is there anything i should really consider strongly before going in and doing this?

sorry i cant help you with your question, but why not just use E36 lights? you can then urpgrade them to some nice angel eye units etc? (obviously depoending on whether or not you like these)

i have no experience of this

the only problem i can see is the beam pattern

will the perspex etc distort it

but saying that ultima do it...

e36 ones are too big, and the wrong shape i did measure them up, but i've barely got room for 1 light unit each side. its a nice idea though

gavin, i thought the same as you! perspex may distort, but theres plenty of cars out there like it, soooo.... i supposed perspex could be added after sva though
