rant...
A1 - 17/2/10 at 10:27 PM

has anyone noticed the massive increase in those irritating people who come up to you in the street and annoy you? mainly on princess street in edinburgh.
I was trying to get up town today and every ten metres you have an immigrant asking you for money, then in between you have about 6 hippies trying to sign you up to some charity for 'only £2 a month' all the way up the street.
its SO annoying. cant the council have the decency to tell them to f*ck off? Im sick of constantly being harrassed for money.

Steve Hignett - 17/2/10 at 10:28 PM

Couldn't spare us a fiver could ya???

CRAIGR - 17/2/10 at 10:30 PM

Our council did tell them all to f*ck off and gave them tickets to Edinburgh

You should be glad you haven't been to joburg..... If you dont give em money your car disappears..... and that's just the official security.
As for the local problem the increase is due to a little credit crunch......ask a man named fred from edinburgh...

andyw7de - 17/2/10 at 10:33 PM

Never had that in Glasgow

What can I say, move to the west

i can quite safely say, most of us on here have not noticed any increase in these people on princes street in edinburgh

easiest solution, don't go to edinburgh... thats how i does it if i can't get it on the west side, or on the internet, i don't need it

Not so fast sloppy shoulders West Lothian is still Lothian so that puts you firmly on the east side, theres no middle ground here

mcerd1 - 17/2/10 at 11:22 PM

I've been doing that ever since they started these f****** trams

only time I go in these days is for drinks, and once I've had a few they stop asking - either that or I just can't remember

Yes i too have noticed it is very bad on princes street, Ed! They guys in green, there is one every 20 meters, i tend to walk down george street or the opposite side to avoid them as well as general amounts of human traffic!!!!

A1 - 18/2/10 at 01:30 AM

I tend to avoid princes street at all costs, but had no choice today
the most annoying thing is that the funny comebacks and games arent as funny when you have to do it non stop.

When I lived in Glasgow I had it all the time, Pikees with their stories about needing 50p for the bus and people with their charity stuff that follow you around. I'll admit I haven't been for almost 2 years but I can't imagine they've all gone.

There was always a massive group outside buchanan Galleries, and more on Sauchiehall Street (I lived in Garnet Hill, and was unemployed with alot of money so I spent alot of time in the centre of the City, so they were there on my way to pretty much everywhere). And On saturday there were always people by the bookshop with tables trying to get your support for Comunism or the PLO or other places.

Best way to deal with Chuggers is to talk to them in a foriegn language, everything else makes them try harder.

Thank F*CK for the wall... it seems to be working

zilspeed - 18/2/10 at 08:44 AM

There's only one way to settle this whole East Vs West thing.

Fight !!!

See new poll.

eznfrank - 18/2/10 at 08:55 AM

Leeds is sometimes quite bad for this too, particularly the "hippies" with their colourful vests and bobbly hats.

Also in Leeds there's a gypsy woman, she sells heather and has been doing for at least 20 years, and in all that time I'm pretty sure she's always had the same sheepskin coat come rain or shine. I often see her harrassing old biddies with her filth about curses, I'd love to tell her to f**k off.

I don;t know if he's still there but there used to be a Big Issue seller in Morley who stood at Morrisons next to the thing where you take your trolley back, quite a good business plan really, you have already got a quid in your hand and you can't say you haven't got a quid. Clever!

iank - 18/2/10 at 11:07 AM

Edinburgh, Englands most northerly city
Berwick, Scotlands most southerly town

At least that was the view of a Scottish friend of mine.

mcerd1 - 18/2/10 at 11:13 AM

I have to admit that I sometimes feel like a minority in edinburgh - I was actualy born there and not in the home countys
(well leith, but its close enough)

You certainly get a lot of hassle in Edinburgh during the Fringe!

It does actually get quite annoying if you're not looking to see a show!

One that does stick in the memory though was the girl standing on a box wearing nothing but 6 £10 notes.

It's led to a now favourite quote from my girlfriend:
"Just because a pretty girl offers you something, you don't have to say yes"

Cheers,
James

Ben_Copeland - 18/2/10 at 11:56 AM

Some woman stopped me in the street today and started telling me a joke, it had all the ingredients of a good joke : starving children, death, tears and suffering, but I didnt understand the punchline..... Something about £2 a month.

A1 - 18/2/10 at 12:34 PM

"I'm deaf" so even if they do manage to collar me I just flap my mouth making no sound and shrug a lot.
